On a mission

After discovering in adulthood that she was on the autism spectrum with ADHD, Zhara began a quest to transform perceptions, treatments, and diagnoses of girls and women in the medical world, in education, and through her work in film and television.

Educator and researcher

These contributions led to Zhara being asked by Arizona State University to create the first university course in the world on the differences in expression between male and female neurodivergence. In her role at ASU, she teaches a course and conducts research on the following areas:
  • Defining the autism female phenotype
  • Gender differences in male and female autism diagnosis
  • Autistic representations in film and television

Zhara Astra is an international speaker, faculty associate at Arizona State University, and has authored several articles on neurodivergence for Scientific American Magazine and other publications. These efforts have accelerated the changing of the narrative for women globally.
